Staff AccountantWe are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing organization. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, financial reporting, payroll support, and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a unionized environment, including familiarity with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), union payroll requirements, fringe benefits, pension contributions, and labor reporting.General AccountingPrepare and post journal entries.Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules.Analyze financial data and investigate variances.Support annual audits and preparation of audit schedules.Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.Accounts Payable & ReceivableProcess vendor invoices and employee reimbursements.Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections activities.Reconcile vendor and customer accounts.Payroll & Union AccountingSupport payroll processing and payroll reconciliations.Review payroll records for compliance with collective bargaining agreements.Calculate and reconcile union dues, pension contributions, health and welfare benefits, and other labor-related obligations.Assist with union reporting requirements and labor audits.Maintain records related to prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting when applicable.Coordinate with Human Resources and Payroll regarding labor contract provisions and employee classifications.Reporting & CompliancePrepare monthly financial reports and supporting analyses.Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.Support internal and external compliance reporting requirements.Identify process improvements and recommend efficiencies.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.2+ years of accounting experience.Strong understanding of GAAP.Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.PreferredExperience working in a unionized environment.Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and union payroll requirements.Experience with pension, health & welfare, and fringe benefit accounting.Familiarity with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting.Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.Nonprofit, public sector, labor organization, construction, or healthcare accounting experience.CompensationSalary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and union accounting exposure.
