Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with nonprofit experience to support the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting of the organization. This role is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, supporting audit preparation, assisting with budgeting activities, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Month-End Close
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and depreciation
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers
Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare financial reports, including budget-to-actual analyses
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting regulations
Support grant and fund accounting, including revenue recognition and reporting
Audit Preparation
Assist in preparation of audit schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation
Coordinate with external auditors and respond to audit inquiries
Maintain accurate and audit-ready financial records throughout the year
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist with the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts
Monitor budget performance and analyze variances
Partner with program teams to ensure proper fund allocation and spending
Additional Accounting Functions
Support accounts payable and receivable processes as needed
Track and reconcile restricted funds, grants, and donor contributions
Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
Experience with audit preparation and external audit support
Hands-on experience with budgeting and financial analysis
Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar)
