Job Title: Staff AccountantDepartment: FinanceStatus: Regular, full-time (with benefits) (IN-PERSON ROLE)Reports to: Senior ControllerBuilding Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) is a nonprofit organization serving residents East of the Anacostia River, focusing on arts, culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health, and well‑being. The office is located on the campus of THEARC in Southeast DC.Principal ResponsibilitiesProcessing accounts payable and receivable transactionsMaintaining accurate financial records and data entryAdministering bi‑weekly payroll processing and related tax filingsAssisting with monthly financial close processesPreparing routine financial reports and reconciliationsSupporting the annual audit and tax preparation processAreas of Focus and Key TasksProcess accounts payable including invoice coding, approval routing, and payment processingManage accounts receivable including invoicing, payment tracking, and collections follow‑upAdminister bi‑weekly payroll processing, including time sheet review, benefit deductions, and paystub distributionProcess payroll tax filings and paymentsPrepare and issue 1099 forms for independent contractorsPerform routine bank and balance sheet account reconciliationsAssist with monthly financial close tasks as assignedMaintain organized digital and physical filing systems for financial documentsSupport preparation for annual audit by gathering requested documentationGenerate standard financial reports for department managersMaintain vendor records and W-9 documentationProcess employee expense reports and reimbursementsTrack and monitor outstanding receivablesAssist with budget preparation by providing historical financial dataPerform other duties as assigned by the CFOQualifications & RequirementsAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit settingExperience with payroll processing and related tax complianceProficiency with accounting software (experience with Sage Intacct a plus)Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial record keepingKnowledge of basic accounting principles and proceduresExcellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlinesProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly ExcelStrong communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive informationProblem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking skillsTeam‑oriented with ability to work collaborativelyDemonstrated reliability and dependabilityKnowledge of and commitment to the communities served in Wards 7 and 8 preferredCompensation & BenefitsThis is a full‑time position with a salary of $60,000–$75,000.
