Our team members enjoy competitive health, vision, and dental insurance, along with a matching 401K plan.Position SummaryThe Staff Attorney provides high-quality legal representation, advice, and advocacy to clients served by the organization. This position supports the mission of the organization by helping individuals and communities overcome legal barriers and access justice. The attorney may handle cases involving areas such as housing, public accommodations, healthcare, public benefits, and other civil legal matters depending on organizational needs.Key ResponsibilitiesClient Representation and AdvocacyProvide legal advice, short-term assistance, representation, and advocacy to clients.Conduct client interviews and assess legal issues and case strategy.Represent the organization professionally in interactions with courts, agencies, community partners, and opposing counsel.Represent clients in court, administrative processes, and negotiations, including preparing legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, and correspondence.Maintain accurate and timely case files and documentation.Engage in policy work with legislators, rule-makers, and other stakeholders.Engage in systemic advocacy and work, including monitoring and investigation activities, cross‑team collaboration, and strategic analysis of systemic issues.Conduct legal reviews of intakes as assigned.Community Engagement and EducationConduct community outreach and legal education presentations.Develop informational materials and resources for clients and community partners.Build relationships with community organizations, agencies, and stakeholders.Collaboration and TeamworkWork collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, advocates, and administrative staff.Participate in case reviews, staff meetings, and organizational initiatives.Support organizational goals related to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and client‑centered services.Provide legal oversight for non‑attorney staff.Compliance and AdministrationEnsure compliance with ethical obligations, grant requirements, and organizational policies.Track and report case outcomes and services provided as required.Assist with grant reporting or data collection when needed.QualificationsRequired QualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and admission to Ohio Bar and admitted or eligible for admission to the Northern and Southern District Courts, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage a caseload independently and meet deadlines.Commitment to the mission of the P & A and to the civil rights of all people.Ability to maintain confidentiality and to deal effectively with and negotiate through confrontational situations and stressful interactions.Preferred QualificationsExperience working in a non‑profit, legal aid, or public interest setting.Experience in one or more relevant areas of law.Experience working with diverse and underserved communities.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong organizational and time management skills.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to equity and inclusion.Proficiency with legal case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.Working ConditionsPrimarily hybrid with occasional travel for court appearances, outreach events, or meetings.May require occasional evening or weekend hours for community events or deadlines.35 hour work weekPhysical RequirementsAbility to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.Ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, virtually, and by telephone.Ability to travel.Salary$60,000 starting and increases with experienceQualified candidates should submit a writing sample, cover letter and resume to HR@disabilityrightsohio.orgEqual Opportunity StatementDisability Rights Ohio is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace.
