Job Summary

The Centro de Asistencia al Migrante Urbano y Rural (CAMUR) seeks a bilingual (Spanish/English) Staff Attorney. The Staff Attorney will work primarily with non-detained families and youth, including Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (“SIJS”) eligible youth.The Staff Attorney will provide representation before the immigration court and USCIS in forms of relief including SIJS, asylum, U/T Visa, and other forms of humanitarian relief.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Provide direct representation to adults, children, and families in removal proceedings and before USCIS;
  • Represent SIJS-eligible clients in state court proceedings to obtain predicate orders;
  • Assist with conducting and reviewing client intakes for immigration relief;
  • Comply with data management protocols;
  • Conduct presentations, workshops, and other community education activities, including at offsite locations;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skill/Qualifications

  • Law degree and active California State Bar License
  • Minimum 2 years experience practicing immigration law with a focus on SIJS relief
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish and English languages
  • Broad knowledge of immigration law and strong legal research skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to working in a diverse professional environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of CAMUR

Work Schedule

Office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The work schedule for this position is a 35-hour workweek equaling 7-hour workdays. The position may require some work on Saturday. Flexible work from home schedule may be offered. Work is performed in a variety of work settings, including CAMUR's offices, workspace provided by others, libraries and other government facilities, among others.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Flexible work from home schedule may be offered as available.

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel to CAMUR's office in Los Angeles, as well as immigration court, state court, and USCIS locations throughout southern California as needed to facilitate representation. Mileage reimbursement is available for travel to immigration court, state court, and USCIS. Ability to drive with a valid license, car insurance, and a registered vehicle is required.
