This role owns critical hardware design areas end to end and partners with systems, mechanical, test and software/firmware teams to ensure charging hardware meets EVgo's performance, reliability, and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Development
Own hardware design and lead development of major controller and related PCB designs within EVgo's charging systems.
Design and document electrical interfaces between major hardware subsystems, such as power cabinets and dispensers.
Own internal power cabinet electrical design and wire harness architecture.
Maintain the bill of materials, source components, and release wiring schematics with version control across owned designs.
Validation, Testing & Supplier Management
Lead hands-on design and validation of prototype hardware, ensuring design maturity through characterization and debugging.
Develop and technically manage suppliers, including board houses.
Define and support board-level end-of-line (EOL) procedures and test equipment.
Participate in design and project reviews with suppliers, including in-person engagement with Asia-based partners.
Work cross-functionally with systems, software and firmware teams to create requirements.
Collaborate on system-level design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) with the systems lead and technical subject matter experts.
Team Development & Knowledge Sharing
Mentor Associate, Electrical Engineer, and Sr Electrical Engineer team members on design practices and technical problem-solving.
Share design standards and lessons learned across the Electrical Engineering team to raise overall design quality.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
