Senior Tax Associate – State and Local Tax (SALT) TeamThis role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and contribute to the growth and success of our Grand Rapids, Michigan-based SALT practice. The position is available in Troy, Grand Rapids, Houston, Duluth, Rochester, Birmingham, Orlando, or Clarksville offices.ResponsibilitiesPrepare or review state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, C‑corporation, S‑corporation, and Partnership income returnsConduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issuesAssist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiationDevelop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize state and local tax liabilitiesStay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team membersResearch technical matters related to state and local taxMentor and train staff members, providing guidance and support in their professional developmentCollaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client serviceQualificationsBachelor's and/or master's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related fieldCPA or CPA track preferred, but not required2 years of experience in state and local tax, preferably in a public accounting or consulting firmKnowledge of state and local tax laws and regulationsExcellent, analytical, problem‑solving, and research skills, and written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CCH Axcess/GoSystem Tax, Avalara/Vertext/TaxJar, or TaxScribe, as relevantLocated within commuting distance of one of the Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida or Tennessee offices.Doeren Mayhew is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
