The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment throughout the Field Museum. Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the work is performed in accordance with the standards and procedures of the Field Museum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete daily maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, work requests; identify and report maintenance problems or physical hazards; monitor building mechanical systems; inspect and repair plumbing systems.
  • Maintain central plant operations, including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Monitor, analyze, and adjust building automation systems to maintain proper conditions for objects, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform scheduled and assigned preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Record maintenance and repair information in accordance with guidelines established by management.
  • Respond to building emergencies including, but not limited to: leaks, fire, elevators
  • Ensure all equipment and work areas are safe, clean, neat, and orderly at all times, with emphasis on safety and accident prevention
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Museum staff, responding to requests and issues in a timely, professional, and courteous manner
  • Ability to access computer programs and use or learn basic computer operations related to position requirements
  • Supervise and train Assistant Engineer
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • City of Chicago Stationary Engineers required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years experience
  • Exhibit excellent customer-service orientation in responding to requests.
  • Display follow-through in carrying out directions from management. Demonstrate teamwork in relations with co-workers
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, lift, kneel, and crouch

Supervision Received:

Receives general supervision by Facilities Operations Manager

Supervision Exercised:

The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Hours and Shift:

Sunday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

Days Off:Friday and Saturday.
