Sterile Process Tech / RDS - SMC

The Sterile Processing Technician is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for supporting the operating room team in the care of surgical patients. This role involves preparing and delivering medical/surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Core Charge RN, and Core Supervisor, the technician ensures the cleanliness, packaging, and processing of surgical equipment and instrumentation, while maintaining inventory and storage of supplies.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sterilization processing of surgical, medical, and dental instrumentation.
• Operate and troubleshoot power equipment such as autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and ultrasonic cleaners.
• Manage multiple computer applications for sterilization tracking and processes.
• Adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting.
• Communicate effectively with a variety of people in a direct, empathetic, and articulate manner.
• Maintain patient-centered and customer-focused communication skills.

Qualifications

• Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certification as a Central Processing Technician (CRCST) within 18 months of hire.
• Minimum age of 18 years prior to start date.
• Preferably two years of experience in handling and sterilization processing of surgical, medical, or dental instrumentation within the past four years, or a vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years.
• Alternatively, at least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds or more frequently, with occasional work above shoulder level.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM or 3 PM to 11:30 PM. No weekends, holidays, or on-call duties. Overtime may be required as needed.
