Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support surgical and procedural services in a healthcare setting. The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for the proper cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of sterile processing procedures, infection prevention standards, and surgical instrumentation, with a strong commitment to patient safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, damage, and proper operation.
• Assemble surgical instrument sets and procedure trays accurately according to established standards.
• Operate sterilizers, washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and other sterile processing equipment safely.
• Monitor and document sterilization cycles, biological indicators, chemical indicators, and quality-control processes.
• Properly package, label, sterilize, and store instruments and sterile supplies.
• Distribute sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment to operating rooms and other clinical departments.
• Respond efficiently to urgent requests for surgical instruments and supplies.
• Identify and report damaged, missing, contaminated, or malfunctioning instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to sterilization and equipment processing.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, OSHA, AAMI, and facility policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Collaborate with surgical staff, nurses, operating room personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
• Assist with inventory management and ensure adequate availability of sterile instruments and supplies.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable healthcare regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in a hospital or healthcare environment.
• Knowledge of sterile processing workflows and surgical instrumentation.
• Ability to properly clean, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments.
• Understanding of infection prevention and sterile processing best practices.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent sterile processing certification preferred.
• Previous experience supporting operating rooms or surgical services preferred.
• Familiarity with AAMI standards and sterile processing best practices preferred.
• Experience operating automated decontamination and sterilization equipment preferred.

Work Environment

This position is based in a healthcare environment and may involve working in decontamination, preparation and packaging, sterilization, sterile storage, and surgical support areas. The role may require prolonged standing, handling medical instruments and equipment, and working in a fast-paced environment.
