Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join their design team on a contract-to-hire basis. As a Structural Engineer, you will perform a significant portion of the structural analysis and design for a variety of projects while working closely with Structural Leads, Structural Engineers, Structural Designers, and other engineering disciplines.
You will contribute to the development of design concepts, complete structural analysis and design, and collaborate with designers to communicate structural requirements through design documents and models.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in the fundamentals of structural engineering, experience with U.S. building codes and seismic provisions, and an understanding of how structural design integrates with and impacts other disciplines. Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform conventional aspects of structural engineering analysis and design under general supervision.
- Plan and conduct engineering work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Apply sound engineering judgment and problem-solving skills while seeking guidance from peers and senior engineers when appropriate.
- Perform lateral analysis and design for wind and seismic conditions in accordance with applicable building code provisions.
- Apply knowledge of U.S. building codes and structural design standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail and quality control throughout the design process.
- Check your own work and perform calculation checking of other engineers' work.
- Take ownership of assigned portions of the structural scope and work reliably to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Manage workload effectively, make and keep commitments, and take responsibility for assigned work.
- Define scope and develop the ability to forecast the level of effort required to complete assigned work.
- Identify potential scope changes and communicate them to the Structural Lead.
- Recognize when additional guidance or assistance is needed and proactively reach out to peers and senior engineers.
- Work in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner with strong attention to detail.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to designers, drafters, and less experienced engineers.
- Contribute to the advancement of workflows, systems, and tools within the structural engineering discipline.
- Embrace emerging technologies and continuously look for opportunities to improve design processes and efficiency.
- Collaborate effectively with other disciplines to ensure structural requirements are properly coordinated and incorporated into project designs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE/PEng) license.
- Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience with U.S. building codes and standards, including:
- International Building Code (IBC)
- ASCE 7
- ACI
- AISC
- Experience with structural engineering analysis software.
- Experience with Navisworks and Bluebeam.
- Experience designing and analyzing traditional steel and concrete structures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering or a Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Experience with semiconductor industrial facilities or general industrial facilities.
- Experience leading small teams or providing technical direction to other engineers and designers.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering and design projects.
