The ideal candidate has strong experience with structural steel erection, rigging, bolting, welding support, aerial lifts, fall protection, and bridge or heavy civil construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Erect, install, connect, and align structural steel members for bridge construction.
- Assist with installation of towers, girders, diaphragms, cross frames, bracing, and related steel components.
- Work safely at heights using harnesses, lifelines, man lifts, scaffolding, and other fall protection systems.
- Read and interpret basic drawings, erection plans, lift plans, and layout information.
- Perform bolting, reaming, fitting, connecting, and related iron work tasks.
- Assist crane crews with rigging, signaling, hoisting, and positioning structural steel.
- Inspect tools, rigging, ladders, lifts, and fall protection equipment before use.
- Coordinate with foremen, crane operators, welders, laborers, and other craft workers.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area on the bridge, barges, access platforms, or staging areas.
- Follow all company, project, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Structural Iron Worker, preferably on bridge, heavy civil, marine, or large infrastructure projects.
- Experience working on elevated structures and around cranes.
- Ability to use impact wrenches, spud wrenches, sleever bars, cutting tools, grinders, and other iron work tools.
- Knowledge of rigging practices, hand signals, and safe steel erection procedures.
- Ability to read basic construction drawings and follow instructions from supervision.
- Comfortable working at heights, over water, and in changing weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift, carry, climb, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work as part of a team.
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Fall protection training
- Rigging and signaling certification
- Aerial lift certification
- Welding certifications, if applicable
- TWIC card, if required by project location
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and structural steel.
- Ability to work at heights and over water.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, rain, and other jobsite conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, vest, harness, and life jacket when required.
