Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Student Nursing Lab Assistant provides support for the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Campus Lab and assists in creating a safe, organized, and supportive environment for nursing students to practice and develop clinical skills.

Primary responsibilities include monitoring and covering designated open lab hours, assisting nursing students with practice and use of lab equipment and supplies, distributing supplies and equipment as needed, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of nursing laboratory spaces. The Student Nursing Lab Assistant may assist the Nursing Lab Supervisor with setting up and taking down nursing skills labs, preparing equipment and supplies for instructional activities, and supporting simulation activities.

The Student Nursing Lab Assistant may also participate as a standardized participant or role-player in nursing simulations and assist faculty, staff, visitors, and other individuals using the nursing laboratory. The position provides an opportunity for nursing students to gain experience with nursing education, simulation, laboratory operations, and professional communication.

The Student Nursing Lab Assistant is expected to follow all Nursing Campus Lab policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality and professionalism, and work collaboratively with nursing faculty, staff, and students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a currently enrolled LSSU Nursing student.
Must have successfully completed NURS 213.
Demonstrated ability to work professionally and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to follow directions, maintain a safe laboratory environment, and appropriately handle nursing lab equipment and supplies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a healthcare, educational, laboratory, or customer-service environment.
Familiarity with nursing skills, simulation equipment, and laboratory procedures.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Dependable and able to work independently when assigned to open lab hours.

Physical Demands:

Adequate physical fitness to sit and concentrate for extended periods and perform routine laboratory and office tasks. Ability to use gross and fine motor skills, including operating computers and handling laboratory equipment and supplies. Ability to understand and work with numbers and communicate effectively through speaking, hearing, and visual means, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Hours: 

Monday–Thursday, approximately 4:00–9:00 p.m., with additional opportunities for Saturday and Sunday open lab coverage as needed. Work hours may vary based on student schedules, laboratory needs, simulation activities, and departmental requireme
