Job Summary

The Student Success Navigator serves as a primary point of contact for prospective, new, and continuing students, providing comprehensive, student-centered support throughout the students enrollment cycle. This position guides students through admissions, onboarding, enrollment, and advising processes to ensure a seamless and supportive experience from initial application through orientation and completion of onboarding.

Aligned with the College's One College Model philosophy, the Navigator recruits, advises, and onboards for students entering both continuing education and curriculum programs, ensuring consistent access, service, and support across all programs.

Advise and support a caseload of students by providing guidance on academic planning, program requirements, course enrollment, and educational goal setting. Assist curriculum and continuing education students in navigating through their program and connect students with appropriate college resources to support their success.

Job Duties

Admissions, Onboarding, and Enrollment Support:

• Provide warm, approachable communication at all times (in-person, email, virtual)
• Guide prospective and new curriculum and continuing education students through the full admissions and enrollment lifecycle, including:
• Application completion and follow-up
• Transcript submission and evaluation
• Residency determination and placement testing
• Program selection and course registration
• Assist students in creating customized educational and career plans ensuring students are enrolled in RCC programs aligned with their goals.
• Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person interactions, providing clear and accurate information.
• Actively participate in recruitment and community outreach efforts such as festivals, K-12 events, and the annual Envision Career Expo to promote access and educational opportunities. Support onboarding activities such as orientations, campus tours, welcome events, and information sessions.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of onboarding and advising processes and materials.

Student Success and Advising Support:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for new students from initial inquiry through first-semester registration, fostering meaningful engagement that encourages consistent attendance and supports students in achieving their educational goals.
• Provide academic advising including course selection, registration, and program pathway planning.
• Review and interpret placement scores, transcripts, assessments, and prerequisites.
• Create professional and caring relationships with a caseload of students. Communicate with them early and often.
• Monitor student progress using early alert systems, grade reports, and conduct targeted outreach to at-risk students.
• Support students experiencing academic difficulty (e.g., academic warning, or probation) by developing intervention and success plans.
• Identify and address barriers to academic success; provide appropriate interventions and referrals to campus and community resources.
• Build meaningful relationships by learning students' names, understanding their goals, and providing consistent follow-up that encourages engagement and persistence to completion.
• Develop, deliver, and support workshops, seminars, and initiatives focused on student success strategies.

Collaboration and Outreach:

• Collaborate with faculty, academic programs, admissions, financial aid, and student services to provide coordinated student support.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty to support timely intervention at key academic momentum points.
• Conduct workshops, presentations, and outreach activities for students, prospective students, and community audiences.
• Encourage student involvement in campus resources, co-curricular activities, and career development opportunities.

Data, Records, and Administrative Support:

• Using Watermark to maintain accurate, timely, and detailed records of student interactions, advising notes, and interventions in institutional systems.
• Track, monitor, and analyze student data to inform outreach strategies, improve retention, and support completion initiatives.
• Utilize data and technology systems (e.g., Watermark SS&E, CRM, Colleague) to manage caseloads and document outcomes.
• Assist with reporting related to enrollment, advising outcomes, student success initiatives, and external partnerships or grants.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support updates and improvements to advising, admissions, and enrollment materials.
• Critically evaluate advising practices, student processes, and systems; recommend and implement improvements to enhance student success.
• Participate in planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of student success initiatives and strategies.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree (Education, Business Administration, Management, Social Sciences)

One to three years experience working with college students

PREFERRED:

Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling, higher education student development, or related areas

Community college experience

Experience with Watermark Enterprise and Colleague

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, team-oriented approach, and ability to work in a congenial and professional manner with students, faculty, and staff.
• Demonstrates a genuine desire to assist others, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality customer service
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple functions or tasks effectively
• Competence in computing skills, especially Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Full-time employees participate in the North Carolina Teachers and State Employees Retirement System. State retirement is deducted at the rate of six percent; the state contribution varies dependent on market conditions. Contributions are tax sheltered for federal and state income tax purposes. Short-term and Long-term Disability benefits are available to eligible employees.
