Job Summary
The Student Support and Success Specialist provides direct, individualized and small group support that promotes student persistence, well-being, and academic success. The specialist works with students to develop the academic skills necessary to be successful in college and beyond. Working collaboratively with other members of the Student Success team, the specialist delivers coaching, success and career planning, and conducts proactive outreach to help students overcome barriers and achieve their educational goals. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success within Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, this position plays an important role within the Student Success team and is based primarily on the Douglas campus with travel to Waycross as needed.
Responsibilities

Develops and Implement Success Plans -
Develops and implements success plans for students experiencing academic difficulty, including students on academic probation and returning from suspension.
Outreach -
Conducts proactive outreach and ongoing follow-up with students to support persistence and academic progress.
Facilitates Educational Programming -
Develops and facilitates educational programming and workshops focused on student well-being, academic resilience, academic mindset, and student success.
Students Educational and Career Goals -
Supports students in identifying educational and career goals and developing skills in decision-making, problem-solving, self-management, and self-advocacy.
Campus Resources -
Collaborates with the Retention Coordinator to connect students with appropriate campus resources and
opportunities that support academic success, engagement, and belonging.
Monitors Student Progress -
Monitors student progress and academic standing and maintains appropriate documentation of student interaction and intervention.
Effectiveness of Student Support Programming -
Assesses the effectiveness of student support programming and contributes to continuous improvement of student success initiatives.
Coaching and Support -
Provides individualized and small-group student success coaching and support.
Support Student Success Initiatives -
Participates in a variety of initiatives to support student success.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelors degree in education, psychology, social work, sociology, or related field and one year of relevant experience working with students or young adults; OR an associates degree and three years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Required Experience
Experience must include work such as student support, education, coaching, mentoring, case management, social services, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting individuals academic, personal, or other barriers to success.
Experience facilitating educational programs and/or workshops.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.

The position requires completion of SGSC annual compliance training course such as State Business Transactions, Drug free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interests/Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Contracts 101.
Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Workers Compensation.
