Student Worker - Chemistry Lab

Job Summary:

This student laboratory assistant position helps setting up advanced chemistry laboratories, e.g., Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry laboratories. To ensure continuity, a new assistant receives training from an experienced assistant, then performs the duty independently, and finally trains a new student assistant during their last semester of service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Take inventories at the beginning of each semester and notify the professor of necessary purchases.
• Condition commonly used equipment such as pH meters.
• Maintain stock solutions, e.g., acetate buffer, Biuret reagent, etc.
• Prepare chemical samples for student experiments, e.g., pre-stained protein samples for SDS-PAGE
• Clean and organize the lab space before and after each week's lab
• Other duties as assigned

Education Employment eligibility:

• Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Completed and passed the General Chemistry courses including the laboratory component
• Completed and passed the Safety course with the DelVal Chemistry department
• Enrolled in or completed the advanced chemistry laboratory courses

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Occasionally lifting 25 lbs or less
• Typically standing or walking
• Climbing ladders, scaffolds
• Using tools requiring high dexterity
• Exposure to chemicals
• Exposure to unpleasant odors
