Job Summary/Basic Function

The Ware Center for the Arts, Millersville University's performing arts venue in the heart of downtown Lancaster is seeking motivated student workers to aide in the day-to-day operations of the venue, providing support for a robust schedule of performances and events throughout the year. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, this position has opportunities in multiple areas of the event industry, encompassing varied interests and skill levels. Hours are flexible and vary based on event needs and assigned position.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered student of Millersville University
  • Ability to travel to downtown Lancaster (bus fare and/or parking provided)
  • Ability to work independently or in teams
  • Dependable and willingness to learn

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in theatre or event industry is a plus
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Job Duties

Students may choose from one or multiple positions based on desired schedule and interests

Technical (Lights/Sound/Video) (Typically evening hours including Friday and Saturday):

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and strike of all areas of production including sound, lighting, and video

House Management (Typically evening hours including Friday and Saturday):

  • Ensure smooth operation of the house and a safe and comfortable experience for patrons
  • Welcome patrons to the building, provide directions, and address audience concerns and questions
  • Duties will include checking facility cleanliness and preparedness, ushering as necessary, and coordinating with production staff for start and end of event

Event Coordination (Typically evening/weekend hours)

  • Work with clients and Event Manager to coordinate event logistics and ensure the smooth flow of events
  • Coordinate all hospitality and front-of-house activities

Stage Management (Typically evening hours including Friday and Saturday):

  • Responsible for organization of production, and the oversight of backstage activities
  • Coordinate with front of house for start and end of show

Setup/Tear Down (Typically weekday/daytime hours):

  • Physical setup and arrangement of rooms including setting up tables, chairs, stages, and podiums for events
  • Move technical equipment such as TVs, PA systems, and lighting trusses throughout the building
  • General organizational tasks

Ability to lift up to 20lbs
