SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Substance Use Counselor provides person-centered, recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed substance use counseling services, including integrated care for individuals with co‑occurring conditions, within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). Services are delivered through multidisciplinary team collaboration and care coordination in compliance with SAMHSA CCBHC criteria and NYS OMH and OASAS regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide outpatient substance use counseling using evidence-based practices.
- Deliver integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions.
- Conduct substance use screenings, assessments, and reassessments within scope of practice.
- Contribute to and implement person-centered treatment plans, updating as participant needs change.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and care coordination activities.
- Support crisis response, safety planning, and continuity of care, including participation in on-call rotation as assigned.
- Complete timely, accurate documentation in the EHR in accordance with OMH, OASAS, Medicaid, and CCBHC standards.
- Advocate for participant rights, cultural responsiveness, and recovery‑oriented care.
- Participate in required trainings, supervision, and quality improvement activities.

- Bachelor’s required
- CASAC 1 or CASAC 2
- Must have one or more years’ experience working with dually diagnosed individuals including the delivery of integrated services
- Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficient in MS Word/Excel
- Ability to research material via the internet
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
