Position Summary

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor provides therapeutic counseling to individuals with substance use disorders using a biopsychosocial approach. This role includes educating patients and their families about the disease of addiction, facilitating group therapy sessions, conducting individual counseling, assessing patient needs, recommending appropriate levels of care, and monitoring compliance with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs. Compensation is commensurate with experience.


Responsibilities

  • Provide program orientation, including program rules and regulations, hours of operation, patient rights, and other information to help patients successfully engage in treatment.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to ensure patients are placed in the appropriate level of care based on their individual needs.
  • Develop and maintain accurate patient documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other required records in compliance with federal, state, and agency standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
  • Facilitate individual counseling sessions and therapeutic group discussions focused on substance use recovery.
  • Educate patients and their families on addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and available treatment options.
  • Monitor patient participation and compliance with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs.
  • Identify patients requiring additional services and coordinate referrals for specialized care as appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to support patient treatment goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and individuals from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current licensure through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board as one of the following:
    • CDCA
    • LCDC II
    • LCDC III
    • LICDC
  • Associate degree in Chemical Dependency Studies or a closely related field.
