Description

The Substation Designer is responsible for supporting the design and development of electrical substation projects ranging from simple to moderately complex. This role involves preparing detailed engineering drawings, performing design calculations, and supporting engineering teams through drafting, modeling, and field activities. The Substation Designer applies established design standards and exercises sound judgment under the guidance of project engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise substation design drawings and construction packages.
  • Support engineering teams with physical substation and/or protection & controls (P&C) design activities.
  • Prepare detailed layouts, plans, sections, and electrical drawings.
  • Perform design calculations and ensure adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Assist with drafting, modeling, documentation, and project coordination efforts.
  • Participate in field visits and support project execution as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain quality, accuracy, and consistency of design deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate"s Degree or Technical Certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a CAD Technician or Designer.
  • 3+ years of experience in Substation Design, including:
  • Physical Substation Design, and/or
  • Protection & Controls (P&C) Design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical substation systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MicroStation.
  • Experience supporting utility, power delivery, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and substation design best practices.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $38.46/hr.
