Substitute Bus Driver

Summary

We are seeking a reliable and dedicated individual to serve as a Substitute Bus Driver. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students and passengers when regular bus drivers are unavailable. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to maintain a positive environment for passengers.

Responsibilities

• Operate school buses or transit vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with all traffic laws and regulations.
• Ensure the safety of all passengers by conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and reporting any maintenance issues.
• Follow established routes and schedules while being prepared to adapt to changes as needed.
• Assist students and passengers in boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring their safety at all times.
• Maintain a clean and organized bus interior and exterior.
• Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and passengers regarding any delays or issues.
• Respond to emergencies or unexpected situations with appropriate actions and decisions.
• Adhere to all district policies and procedures, including those related to student behavior and discipline.
• Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on policies and safety protocols.

Requirements

• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating a bus.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations or accidents.
• Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
• Must pass a background check and any required drug screenings.
• Flexibility to work on short notice, including mornings, afternoons, and occasional weekends.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to operating a bus.
