    Substitute Pool for 26-27 School Year

    GROUP: Substitute

    SALARY: Facilities and Maintenance

    FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

    WORK DAYS PER FISCAL YEAR: On Call

    SUMMARY: The position provides a high level of support for various school departments in one or all areas of custodial, general maintenance, grounds maintenance and shipping and receiving, as needed. May be required to provide basic office support for the department, to include responding to phone calls, filing and completing basic facilities functions.

    ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools that has been funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.     GROUNDS AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE

    • Able to work outside in all weather conditions
    • Able to work and operate grounds equipment (riding and push lawn mowers, blowers, sweepers and vacuums, as well as other common grounds maintenance equipment)
    • Able to operate hand tools for outside use (rakes, cutters shovels, edgers, drills and other common hand tools)
    • Perform light structural work such as painting, carpentry and general maintenance work consistent with needs of a school/business setting
    • Maintain a clean orderly work area, as well as keeping tools clean
    • Monitor and pick-up ground litter and garbage
    • Perform light custodial work when needed
    • Outside work to include: weed pulling, spreading bark, and other general grounds maintenance labor

    SHIPPING AND RECEIVING

    • Examine all incoming shipments/supplies and prepare items for distribution by verifying information against bills of lading, invoices, purchase orders or other receiving records.
    • Deliver supplies and bulk items to the schools and required buildings.
    • Account for, separate and re-package all received items.
    • Package and log all outgoing items.
    • Basic inventory of received packages and proper shipping preparation of out-going packages, as required
    • Basis office equipment use

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    High School diploma or GED

    Possess a valid Washington State Drivers License

    One (1) full year of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working in one or more of the following areas: grounds, shipping and receiving and/or maintenance

    Able to lift and maneuver packages/equipment weighing between 50 - 100 lbs

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Work experience involving grounds maintenance
    • Work experience involving shipping and receiving
    • Certification in any area closely related to commercial maintenance and/or grounds maintenance

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Successful criminal background clearance

    Successful and/or clear drug screening

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    School board policies and procedures

    Effective teaching and training theories & techniques

    ABILITY TO:

    Able to lift and maneuver packages/equipment weighing between 50 - 100 lbs.

    Able to drive school vehicles for purposes of regular duties assigned

    Ability to work with people in a courteous and efficient manner in person and on the phone

    Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing demonstrating proper English usage and grammar.

    Experience using current Microsoft Office programs.

    Ability to take initiative and work independently.

    Display good time management and organizational skills.

    Able to maintain confidentiality.

    Skills to operate the variety of tools and equipment utilized in performance of duties in multiple trades.

    Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.

    Ability to work in a sequential manner using oral and written instructions.

    Ability to read and write English

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    Demonstrate a thorough understanding of confidentiality and the ability to maintain working relationships with others.

    Knowledge and skill in organizing the physical and human elements in the educational setting.

    Ability to work with and relate to Native American children and serve as a positive role model.

    Ability to organize facts and present them in a clear, concise and logical manner, both orally and in written form.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Facility Manager or designee

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. Workplace accommodations may be provided in accordance with CLS Tribal policy.

    • Employees may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving reaching, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and fine motor coordination.
    • This position may require regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, with appropriate assistance or equipment as needed.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work is primarily performed in an indoor educational environment with moderate noise levels. Employees may work in and/or proximity to classrooms, students, and standard office or instructional equipment. Conditions may vary based on program needs.
