DESCRIPTION: Enables each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator's or Subtitute License registered in Lake County
Education:
A. Required - Bachelor's Degree
A. Required - Spanish fluency
B. Preferred - Spanish fluency with classroom teaching experience
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building
Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day
Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned
Teachers the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher
Consults as appropriate, with the school principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Guide
Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods
Reports in writing, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day teaching practice dictates
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Technical: Competent in digital environments; iPads, Chromebooks databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications etc.
Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses and community. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills. Empathetic, humanistic and open-minded. Strong sense of teamwork. Strategic thinker. Must be able to work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration, etc. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff in both English and Spanish. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills.

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

Technical: Able to work with district technology systems to include ESPED. Able to utilize Microsoft Office, including but not limited to, Word, Excel, etc.
Interpersonal: The candidate must exhibit excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with staff, students and parents. Must be able to model and implement behavior strategies to support staff and students struggling with behavior. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills. Must be able to maintain harmonious relationships with staff, students and parents.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work Week: Monday through Friday (as needed)
Work Year: August to June (as needed)
Work Hours: Varies from 7:15 a.m. - 3:55 p.m. depending upon building assignment
Salary Range: $130 per day (1-10 days); $210 per day (11 - 60 days); $220 (61+ days)
