    Job Description

    Substitute STEAM Educator

SHARP's Substitute Educators play a critical role in keeping our mission running smoothly by stepping in to lead one-hour, drop-in, hands-on STEAM workshops for students in grades K3 to 5th whenever a regularly scheduled Educator is unavailable. This is a unique, on-call position for someone who wants meaningful, purpose-driven work without a fixed weekly commitment.

    What makes this role different:

Because you may be called on to cover any workshop, Substitute Educators are trained across our full K3–5th grade STEAM curriculum. We'll invest the time to get you comfortable leading any session in our lineup, so you can step in with confidence on short notice.

    Who we are:

SHARP is a nonprofit that has grown into a leading force for educational excellence throughout southeastern Wisconsin. We partner with educators to foster a love of learning through innovative, STEAM-based experiential programs. Grounded in community partnerships, our programming sparks curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in K3 through 5th grade students by building the skills that set them up for success, no matter their circumstances.

    What we're looking for:

    • Availability Monday through Friday during school hours, with the flexibility to respond to last-minute scheduling requests
    • Complete paid training across our full curriculum so you're ready to cover any grade level or topic
    • Comfort learning and delivering a wide range of hands-on, technology-based workshops across multiple grade levels
    • Confidence engaging and managing a classroom independently, often with limited lead time
    • Reliability and strong communication, since schools are counting on quick confirmation when a need arises

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, computer science, technology, the arts, or a related field preferred
    • Experience working in school settings with diverse student populations
    • Familiarity with teaching STEAM content to elementary students, or willingness to learn
    • Strong technology skills and problem-solving ability; prior coding experience is a plus
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Positive attitude, flexibility, and dependability
    • Must have reliable transportation
    • Bilingual candidates will be given special consideration
