Substitute Teacher (Grades 7-12)

MSD of Shakamak is accepting applications for substitute teachers to serve students in grades 7-12. Substitute teachers provide instructional continuity while fostering a positive, respectful, learning environment during teacher absences.

We welcome applicants from a variety of professional backgrounds who enjoy working with adolescents and supporting student learning.

Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom instruction using teacher-prepared lesson plans.
• Maintain an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment.
• Supervise students throughout the school day and during assigned duties.
• Promote positive behavior and uphold school expectations.
• Take attendance and complete required classroom documentation.
• Communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, and office staff.
• Provide feedback for the regular classroom teacher regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Follow district policies regarding safety, confidentiality, and student supervision.

Qualifications

• Must meet Indiana substitute teacher requirements and hold or be eligible for an Indiana Substitute Teacher Permit.
• High School diploma required; additional education preferred in accordance with Indiana Department of Education licensing requirements.
• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with middle and high school students.
• Successful completion of required background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with adolescents.
• Teaching, coaching, mentoring, or youth leadership experience.
• Flexible, dependable, and able to adapt to different classroom assignments.
