Long-term Substitute English Teacher (August - December)

Silas Deane Middle School has an opening for a Long-term Substitute English Teacher. We are targeting filling this role immediately for the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. This position is anticipated to last through the end of 2026.

Position: Long-term Substitute English Teacher

School: Silas Deane Middle School

Reports To: Building Principal

Start Date: August 17, 2026

End Date: Late December (anticipated)

Compensation: $150 - $300 per day worked (certified)

Employer: Kelly Educational Staffing (staffing partner to Wethersfield Public Schools)

The chosen candidate will be employed by our temporary staffing partner, Kelly Educational Staffing, and will be assigned to fill this opening.

Duties of the position include the following:

  • Create lesson plans aligned to the CCSS and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning;
  • Create, organize and implement learning activities, such as simulations, debates and experiential exercises designed to enhance classroom teaching, support optimal learning, and develop new skills;
  • Encourage student learning through peer collaboration and productive discussion;
  • Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments;
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of unit lessons and learning assessments;
  • Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree is preferred but not required;
  • Position requires the appropriate CT Certification in English (015);
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
  • Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints;
  • Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
