ESS has partnered with the Bethany School District to place passionate Substitute Teachers in the classroom for Fall 2026! We are currently looking for a dynatic Long-Term Substitute Reading Interventionist to support the Bethany Community School, with an anticipated start date in November 2026.
When a teacher is absent, a qualified substitute is needed to carry out the educational program. As a long substitute teacher, you'll become an integral part of a school's educational team, amplifying your teaching expertise while maximizing the learning experience for students! . As a long-term substitute, you will be responsible to implementing provided lesson plans, grading/reporting, parent communication and classroom management. This position will have support from the Administration and Department Leads.
Responsibilities
- Supports the core instructional program by providing tiered intervention support for students who are identified through the MTSS process.
- Collaborates with Instructional Support Team and classroom teachers to identify, service, and assess intervention students.
- Provides individual and/or small group intervention support designed to meet the needs of students in the MTSS process.
- Under the direction of the Curriculum Coach, plans and delivers high-quality intervention lessons using a variety of scientific research-based resources and materials, including educational technology and software programs.
- Provides academic, behavioral, and/or social interventions to students identified in the MTSS process.
- Adheres to a schedule to provide intervention support at all grade levels.
- Monitors student progress using a variety of progress monitoring tools.
- Uses technology to chart interventions, frequency, outcome, and student progress.
- Compiles data, maintains files, and monitors student progress.
- Utilizes student achievement data to make instructional decisions.
- Communicates student progress effectively to staff, families, and students.
- Attends PPT, 504, CST, case review, data team, and grade level meetings, as required.
- Establishes and manages standards of student behavior needed to achieve a safe and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Provides classroom coverage, if necessary.
- Provides guidance and support for instructional aides including creating caseloads and schedules.
- Participates in Kindergarten Screening and assists with the analysis to identify students needing support.
- Assists with the administration of state standardized testing.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date record keeping of student data per district policy, administrative regulations, and law.
- Communicates with families through conferences and other means such as email and telephone, to discuss students' progress.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for resolving issues, providing information, and/or direction.
- Collaborates with the appropriate administrator to develop evaluation criteria in conformance with the adopted Teacher Evaluation Plan.
- Keeps abreast of current developments in education with specific attention to MTSS and intervention supports.
- Participates in continuing professional development and additional training, as required.
Qualifications
- Reading Interventionist - Valid Connecticut State Department of Education Certification (013 and 102) or (305 and 097) Preferred
- CT/FBI Criminal History Clearance
- Department of Children and Families Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Record Clearance
- Education Employment Verification - Act 16-67
- Certification in Physical Management Training (PMT) is preferred.
