Doeren Mayhew’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is ranked by Callahan & Associates as the #1 credit union auditing firm in the nation. As a summer 2028 FIG audit intern, in our Houston, Texas office, you will have the opportunity to specialize in the industry of auditing financial institutions. You will go through a hands-on training program during the first week of the internship, in which you will learn how to utilize audit software programs, develop an understanding of audit procedures, and work closely with seasoned audit professionals. Your responsibilities and experience will be like those of our first-year audit associates and is a great way to see firsthand how rewarding a public accounting career can be.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with audit, review, and compilation engagements
• Support employee benefit plan audits, including 401(k) plan audits
• Prepare and organize audit workpapers and supporting documentation
• Perform testing of account balances, transactions, and internal controls
• Assist with confirmations, reconciliations, and analytical procedures
• Communicate professionally with clients and firm personnel
• Research accounting and auditing matters assigned
• Participate in team meetings and engagement planning
• Maintain confidentiality of client and firm information
• Complete other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting
• Completion of at least one intermediate accounting course
• 3.0 GPA (cumulative and in accounting major)
• Work experience preferred (related or unrelated to accounting)
• Strong drive and motivation to pursue a career in public accounting
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to take initiative via work experience and/or extracurricular activities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proven time management skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
• High degree of curiosity, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm
