SUPERINTENDENT — Technology & Low Voltage Construction
Location: Onsite/ Full Time / Chattanooga, TN
ROLE SUMMARY
The Technology & Low Voltage Site Superintendent will lead field operations for technology infrastructure scopes on healthcare construction projects, including structured cabling systems (copper and fiber), LAN/WAN and wireless networks, and integrated low voltage systems such as nurse call, overhead paging, access control, CCTV, and Public Safety DAS. This role is responsible for safety compliance, subcontractor management, constructability reviews in the field, job walks for client and subcontractor reviews, as-built verification of subcontractor installations, and implementation of RFIs, ASCs, CCDs, and similar documents once approved by the Client.
This position is expected to be a field superintendent who, through strong leadership, communication, and management skills, effectively manages scope definition and integration for technology and low voltage scopes on selected projects — with a deep understanding of the unique demands of healthcare environments, including working within active hospital campuses, infection control protocols (ICRA/PCRA), above-ceiling work, and strict coordination with facility staff and patient care operations. This requires walking job sites in all conditions, full PPE at all times, and onsite presence whenever subcontractors are working.
We strive to work together not only with our internal team, but also with our vendors, subcontractors, and customers to design and deliver the best technology solution for the project. Our team shares not only in responsibility, but also in training, leadership, and family values that allow us to work closely together and be as efficient as possible. We work together to build trust, empathy, accountability, and expertise in order to give our customers, vendors, and employees the best possible experience at our organization. Our team is capable of completing a start-to-finish technology installation — from pathway and cable plant to systems testing and turnover — tracking milestones along the way, and providing feedback on better, more cost-effective ways to complete our projects.
KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES — CORE
- Supports all aspects of the company's safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others — including healthcare-specific safety and infection control requirements on hospital jobsites.
- Coordinate with the project team on technology and low voltage design and construction efforts — including structured cabling, fiber backbone, copper horizontal distribution, LAN/WAN, wireless, and low voltage systems — that meet constructability, quality, financial, and technical standards.
- Lead field-level coordination of low voltage infrastructure: pathway planning (conduit, cable tray, raceway), telecom rooms and IDF/MDF buildouts, cable pulling and termination, testing and certification, and system integration points with other trades.
- Implementation of RFIs, ASCs, CCDs, etc., once approved by the Client, with particular attention to technology scope impacts on ceiling grids, walls, and shared pathways in healthcare spaces.
- Document control of daily reports, safety documentation, job walks, test and certification records, and as-builts for all technology and low voltage scopes.
- Trade-to-trade coordination through the shop drawing and submittal process as it applies to low voltage installations in the field, including coordination with electrical, mechanical, ceiling, and medical equipment trades.
- Provide technical expertise related to field installation of low voltage systems and healthcare facility requirements, including code compliance (NFPA, TIA/EIA standards) and hospital-specific installation practices.
- Review scheduling with subcontractors and the PM to properly align field conditions with the PM for current reviews and alignment with the GC schedule — sequencing low voltage rough-in, cable installation, and device installation around clinical operations and facility milestones.
- Support mock-up rooms/spaces installation and coordination with subcontractors, including typical patient room and clinical space technology mock-ups.
- Lead, coach, and motivate team members in a proactive manner, consistent with Our Client's FIT policy.
- Support the team for project delivery to achieve project financial, quality, and performance objectives. Keeps the PM informed of all field directions to confirm them with the Client/Team so no verbal orders are taken and all cost impact is reviewed.
- Participate in companywide communication programs and strategy sessions to enhance the company's ability to effectively market, sell, and deliver technology-related services in the healthcare market.
- Assist in developing the schedule for all technology scopes — submittals, shop drawings, BIM/coordination dates, addition of scope, and mockups/training — with the PM team.
- Track and report progress on the achievement of project milestones with team members for updates to schedule and progress payments.
- Communicate, track, and resolve issues in an effective and prompt manner throughout the life of the project.
KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES — ADDITIONAL CORE
In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:
- Assistance in management of coordination efforts between the GC and our team in the field for all low voltage scopes, including coordination with hospital IT, biomedical engineering, and facilities departments.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices in technology infrastructure and healthcare construction; and participating in professional societies (e.g., BICSI, RCDD track, healthcare construction certifications such as ASHE/CHC).
- Engage local civic organizations and municipality activities to establish local involvement with the projects, as well as Union relations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to translate technical requirements for clients, GCs, and clinical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with construction/field management software (e.g., Procore) and low voltage test/certification documentation.
- Ability to demonstrate strong personal and interpersonal skills as a self-starter with strong follow-through.
- Thorough knowledge of project processes and how each supports the successful completion of a construction project with a PM.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
- Ability to manage subcontractors, maximize time, and generate future work through building relationships.
- Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project.
- Strong working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure and networking, including but not limited to:
- Fiber optic (single-mode/multi-mode) backbone and copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A) horizontal cabling systems
- LAN/WAN infrastructure, wireless access points, and telephony systems
- Telecom room (MDF/IDF) buildout, grounding and bonding (TIA-607), and pathway/raceway systems (TIA-569)

- Working knowledge of low voltage hospital systems, including:
- Nurse call and clinical communication systems
- Overhead paging and mass notification
- Access control and CCTV/security systems
- Public Safety DAS (PS-DAS) and ERRC/BDA systems
- Experience or familiarity with healthcare construction environments is strongly preferred: ICRA/PCRA infection control procedures, above-ceiling and in-wall work in occupied or near-occupied facilities, negative air/containment practices, and coordination around patient care activities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, BIM/Revit models, and low voltage drawings and specifications.
