We are seeking our next Superintendent of Custodial Services who will be all-in on our mission and who oversees custodial operations across all College facilities, ensuring that buildings are clean, safe, and well maintained through effective scheduling, supervision, and adherence to College standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Degree.

Preferred: Associate degree in facilities management, business administration, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Five (5) years of progressively responsible custodial or facilities operations experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

Preferred: Experience in managing multi-site custodial operations or educational/institutional facilities strongly preferred.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise the daily operations of custodial services for both day and night shifts across all Amarillo College campuses and facilities.
• Monitor facility use and event scheduling to develop appropriate daily and weekly work schedules for custodial staff, including special projects and deep-cleaning assignments.
• Oversee and coordinate large-scale moves, setups, and reconfigurations of office, classroom, and common areas, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
• Conduct regular building inspections to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and maintained to College standards.
• Develop and implement custodial procedures, standards, and training programs to ensure consistent quality and compliance with safety and sanitation requirements.
• Supervise, evaluate, and mentor custodial supervisors and staff; provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
• Interview, recommend, and assist in the selection and onboarding of new custodial employees.
• Monitor and manage the custodial operating budget, including personnel, supplies, and equipment needs.
• Coordinate procurement, inventory, and distribution of custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning supplies.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare periodic reports on custodial activities, staffing, work performance, and supply usage.
• Collaborate with Facilities and Maintenance leadership to prioritize work orders, preventive maintenance, and special cleaning projects.
• Serve as liaison between custodial staff and other College departments to ensure effective communication and service delivery.
• Participate in emergency response and inclement weather plans as needed to maintain operational continuity.
• Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Principles and practices of custodial operations and maintenance for large, multi-building facilities.
• Modern cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, including green cleaning practices and chemical safety.
• Budget development, inventory control, and cost management in custodial operations.
• Supervisory principles and practices, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluation.
• College policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations related to facilities and workplace safety.
• Event setup, furniture moving, and large-scale facility preparation processes.
• Work order systems, preventive maintenance scheduling, and digital workflow tracking.
• Planning and coordinating the work of multiple custodial teams across day and night shifts.
• Inspecting facilities and identifying cleaning, maintenance, or safety issues.
• Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, faculty, and leadership.
• Managing and prioritizing multiple projects, deadlines, and competing demands.
• Operating custodial and maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
• Using technology and software for scheduling, timekeeping, inventory tracking, and reporting.
• Lead, motivate, and build a cohesive custodial team that delivers high-quality service across all College facilities.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse employee groups and departments.
• Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and fairness in supervision and problem solving.
• Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and analyze data to inform decision-making.
• Identify operational improvements and implement best practices in custodial efficiency and sustainability.
• Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet College operational needs.
• Support the College's mission through professionalism, accountability, and consistent service delivery.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 12 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
