Supervising Mechanical Design Engineer, PE required

About the Opportunity

A nationally recognized engineering consulting firm is seeking a Supervising Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex building systems projects while mentoring engineering teams and supporting continued growth within its Mechanical practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed Mechanical Engineer who enjoys both technical leadership and client interaction. You'll work on a diverse portfolio of projects including healthcare, mission critical, commercial, higher education, laboratories, life sciences, and other technically challenging facilities while helping shape the future of the regional mechanical engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of complex building systems projects from concept through construction.
  • Serve as the technical lead and mentor for mechanical engineering staff.
  • Manage multiple projects while ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, and architectural teams.
  • Provide quality assurance and technical oversight for project deliverables.
  • Participate in client meetings and develop strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Support project pursuits, proposals, interviews, and business development efforts.
  • Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineering staff.
  • Support construction administration activities including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and problem resolution.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving building codes, industry standards, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience within a consulting engineering or A/E environment.
  • Strong experience designing HVAC and central utility systems for commercial, healthcare, mission critical, life sciences, higher education, or laboratory facilities.
  • Experience with chilled water, heating hot water, air distribution, hydronic systems, and energy-efficient building design.
  • Proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of load calculation software such as HAP, Trace 3D Plus, or similar programs.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
