Job Description

Summary

The Supervisor, Accounting will oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger. This position will analyze financial data, oversee account reconciliations, and support audits.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise daily accounting activities for adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Supervise balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Coordinate and reconcile assigned month‑end close tasks, for completion of entries, and reviews according to the close calendar.
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by general accounting staff, payroll, and accounts payable transactions, for accuracy, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Maintain and update assigned close checklists and task trackers, provide status updates to management.
  • Supervise balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Support audits by compiling requested items from accounting department.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting to state and federal agencies
  • Support continuous improvement and operational efficiency by identifying areas of opportunity and sharing recommendations with management.
  • Provide day‑to‑day guidance, training, and coaching to accounting staff to promote accuracy, consistency, and professional development.
  • Supervise in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and internal policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Internal

  • Manager, Accounting: Report to, receive direction, guidance, and decision from.

  • Bargaining Unit Representatives
  • Independent Auditors: Provide information and exchange information.
  • State and Federal Agencies  Coordinate with, provide and exchange information.

  10. Proficient understanding of internal controls and risk management.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises Payroll, General Ledger, and Accounts Payable.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Occasional overtime due to deadlines and seasonal workloads may be required. Occasional travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Education

Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting, finance or related discipline, required. Certified Public Account license, preferred. Additional specialized training in computer science, financial management and economics, preferred.

Experience

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial management and plant accounting, including experience leading a team, process or supervising and knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards. Knowledge of FERC system of accounts, preferred. Experience working in a utility/union environment, preferred.
