Position Summary:

The Metrology Supervisor is responsible for leading daily calibration, instrumentation support, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting activities for GMP manufacturing, laboratory, utility, and facility systems. This role supervises assigned personnel, prioritizes and schedules work, balances team workload, and ensures activities are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with GMP, quality, safety, and environmental requirements.

This position is accountable for timely completion and documentation of SAP work orders, calibration activities, quality records, and related maintenance documentation. The Metrology Supervisor partners with Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities Maintenance, Validation, Quality, Reliability, EHS, vendors, and contractors to support equipment reliability, audit readiness, and uninterrupted site operations.

The successful candidate must be able to lead in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment, make sound decisions under pressure, communicate effectively across departments, and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise metrology personnel responsible for calibration, instrumentation support, PMs, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response activities.
• Plan, schedule, prioritize, dispatch, and monitor daily work to ensure critical tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production needs.
• Generate, track, process, and close SAP work orders to ensure accurate documentation, equipment history, and timely completion of assigned work.
• Monitor calibration, and work order completion; drive on-time completion, backlog control, and workload balance across the team.
• Conduct field follow-up reviews of PMs and work orders to verify work quality, procedural compliance, and technician performance.
• Provide technical direction, coaching, training, and performance feedback to assigned personnel.
• Maintain training schedules, review document revisions, and ensure personnel remain current on required training.
• Support timekeeping, vacation planning, scheduling, and performance review processes as required.

GMP Compliance, Quality Systems & Documentation

• Ensure calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities are performed in compliance with GMP requirements, site procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Create, revise, review, and approve SOPs, documentation updates, events, deviations, and related records as required.
• Support Change Controls, CAPAs, deviations, equipment investigations, audit requests, and regulatory inspection activities.
• Attend CAT meetings or applicable site review meetings to support changes to SAP documentation and procedures
• Partner with QA Training to monitor training access, retraining requirements, and access removal when required.
• Maintain complete, accurate, traceable, and inspection-ready records.

Operational Support, Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Perform routine walkthroughs of assigned facilities and metrology spaces to identify deficiencies, safety concerns, housekeeping issues, or equipment-related discrepancies.
• Generate work notifications or SAP work orders to correct identified issues and maintain inspection readiness.
• Coordinate maintenance and calibration activities around production schedules to minimize operational impact.
• Scope, estimate, coordinate, and support assigned facilities, metrology, calibration, or system improvement projects.
• Identify and implement improvements to calibration practices, documentation quality, work execution, and department performance.

Safety & Operational Excellence

• Enforce strict adherence to safety, environmental, GMP, and quality requirements during daily operations.
• Adhere to EHS policies and procedures and ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment.
• Actively participate in safety and environmental programs, hazard identification, safe work practices, incident prevention, and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain clean, organized, and inspection-ready work areas.
• Identify unsafe conditions, initiate corrective actions, and promote safe work behaviors across the team.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical field preferred.
• 5–10 years of related calibration, instrumentation, metrology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience working in GMP plant operations or regulated manufacturing environments.
• Background in industrial, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, utility, and computer-based systems.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, instruct, and support team members using technical drawings, procedures, and verbal instructions.
• Working knowledge of SAP or equivalent CMMS, documentation systems, training systems, timekeeping systems, and computer-based communication tools.
• Technical knowledge of basic electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation systems, and major utilities.
• Ability to create, revise, execute, and review Calibrations, work orders, SOPs, and maintenance documentation.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal customers, peers, vendors, contractors, and direct reports.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, make sound decisions under time-sensitive conditions, and maintain GMP compliance.
• Must be able to support weekends, holidays, overtime, off-shift work, and emergency response as required.
