Duties

Help

  • Develop law enforcement programs and operating plans for the installation and is responsible for planning, supervising, and managing the operations of the division.
  • Review and evaluate staff actions for adherence to organizational policy.
  • Plan for current and long-range operations based on workload trends and projected requirements.
  • Establish training programs within the department to ensure initial training, sustainment training and training on new policy and law is conducted.
  • Advise top-level installation managers on police department issues impacting them and develop acceptable solutions to problems.
  • Identify problem areas and makes necessary changes in policies and procedures to correct deficiencies and to meet short and long range objectives.
  • Direct the law enforcement staff directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors performing the various police functions.
  • Maintain good grievance procedures and personally resolve significant employee and group complaint seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Perform liaison with other military and civilian law enforcement agencies within the area to discuss problems, inter-agency support, future plans and needs, and exchange of information.

  • Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid (Secret) security investigation
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56:
  • Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug- Free Federal Workplace Program. Signing of a DA Form 5019, acknowledging pre-appointment drug test and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Must submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450 (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I USOGE, 6/08) Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report initially and annually IAW DoD Directive 5500-7-R Joint Ethics Regulation 17-Nov-2011
  • Designated Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Commander and may be required to remain on duty after official shift ends.
  • Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • One year Supervisory probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Direct law enforcement unit through subordinate supervisors; 2) Ensure all subordinates meet developmental and training needs; 3) Coordinate emergency responses between emergency services units; 4) Perform duties to maintain accuracy and compliance with existing policies and procedures regarding police operations and administration; 5) Prepare correspondence, plans and reports to maintain police operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces.
