About the Role
The Surgery Center Medical Assistant is a vital role in supporting patients throughout their fertility journey. We are seeking compassionate, detail-oriented individuals who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a Surgery Center Medical Assistant, you will support both the clinic and surgery center by assisting with patient care, preparing for and supporting procedures, providing patient education, and collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and the multidisciplinary care team. In this role, you will help ensure every patient receives exceptional, compassionate care at every step of their path to parenthood.
We are seeking a Surgery Center Medical Assistant to join our dedicated team at Pinnacle Fertility – Illinois in Chicago, IL. This is a full-time, onsite position workingMonday through Friday. Employees are generally scheduled to work a consistent 8.5-hour shift (including a 30-minute unpaid meal period) between the hours of 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Occasional flexibility with start and end times may be required to support patient care and the operational needs of the surgery center.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and check-in patients, verify medical history, and update their information.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Perform diagnostic tasks such as taking vital signs, drawing blood, and administering injections.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are stocked and ready.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR).
- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, including follow-ups and referrals.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, medication protocols, and preventive care measures.
- May assist with in-office procedures and provide critical support during egg retrievals and other outpatient procedures.
- Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques, including proper equipment setup and usage to maintain a sterile environment.
- Prepare and maintain the surgical setup, sterile field, and assist during surgeries to promote a safe and efficient environment of care.
- May prepare, maintain, and assist within the Operating Room (OR), ensuring sterile technique, proper equipment setup, and smooth clinical flow.
- Assist with patient positioning, ensuring their comfort and safety in the Operating Room.
- Support room turnover, decontamination, sterilization, and equipment maintenance in compliance with recommended guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with the Surgical Team to manage daily workload effectively.
- Maintain inventory to ensure the availability of necessary supplies for surgical procedures.
- Coordinate with external equipment representatives and vendors to ensure all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Adhere to infection control and safety standards to maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Assist with inventory management and clinical supply ordering.
- Respond to patient inquiries and provide outstanding customer service.
- Perform other duties and support special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Education & Licensure:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Experience & Skills:
- Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Experience in Operating Room (OR) required.
- Phlebotomy experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to empathize with patients.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour (final offers based on experience, skills, and qualifications).
