Position Summary:
- Provides welcoming and a resourceful presence as a first contact for patients, families, friends and visitors. Delivers patient care and provides support for unit activities under the clinical direction of a Registered Nurse. Provides specimen collection and processing services. Schedules patient appointments and helps coordinate outside appointments for care continuation
What the Surgical Optimization Nurse Assistant will do:
- Observes patient's condition and progress (or lack of progress) toward defined outcomes, in collaboration with the RN; and documents observations.
- Delivers patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, and policies and procedures in collaboration with the RN.
- Supports unit activities by transporting patients, maintaining physical work environment in orderly manner as directed; answering patient call lights and responding to patient requests; transporting specimens, blood, non-narcotic pharmaceuticals, supplies, and medical records as needed.
- Performs venipuncture collections on patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric. Specimen processing for testing.
- Correctly identifies patients and accurately enters patient encounter demographics.
- Communicates and collaborates with patients, visitors and families in a professional and helpful manner. Acknowledges and greets people in a warm and inviting manner as they approach the main desk. Gives accurate information and directions to patients, visitors and families. Assists in directions and assigning patient/family escort when necessary.
What the Surgical Optimization Nurse Assistant will need:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Certified Nursing Assistant, 6 months experience in direct patient care as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician; OR completion of at least 1 clinical rotation in nursing school.
Preferred:
- Completion of a nursing assistant program. Phlebotomy trained or phlebotomy technical school. Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
- Health Unit Coordinator Certification
- One year of experience as a PCA/CNA/MA/HUC with patient care experience.
- Phlebotomy experience.
