Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) in a fast-paced Level I Trauma Center. This leadership role is responsible for supervising staff, coordinating workflow, ensuring compliance with sterilization and infection prevention standards, and maintaining instrument readiness to support surgical and procedural services.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Sterile Processing Technicians, Lead Technicians, and non-certified staff across all SPD areas, including decontamination, prep & pack, sterilization, sterile storage, and case cart management.
- Coordinate daily staffing assignments based on workload, surgical volume, and departmental priorities.
- Monitor instrument tracking systems, inventory, documentation accuracy, and case cart readiness.
- Ensure compliance with AAMI ST79, AORN, CDC, and hospital regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment, instrument, and workflow issues to minimize delays in surgical services.
- Monitor tray turnaround times, instrument availability, and sterilization quality indicators.
- Audit tray assembly, peel packs, count sheets, labeling, and documentation for quality assurance.
- Collaborate with department leadership on staff orientation, training, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintain infection prevention standards and ensure proper clean/dirty workflow separation.
- Perform sterile processing duties as needed, including decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Sterile Processing experience.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Level I Trauma Center experience required.
- Strong experience in decontamination, sterilization, instrument assembly, wrapping, and surgical instrument processing.
- Experience with specialty service lines including Neuro, Orthopedics, Robotics, ENT, GU, Transplant, and GYN preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems preferred.
- CBSPD and/or CRCST (HSPA) certification required.
- BLS certification not required.

- First-time travelers are not accepted.
- Floating between the Main SPD, CSC, and affiliated campuses may be required based on operational needs.
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of submission.
- Guaranteed hours with limited facility call-offs.
- Travelers may be assigned to emergency response/storm teams as required by the facility.
