    JOB SUMMARY

    Assists in surgical technologist duties for surgical cases and assists the registered nurse in caring for the surgical patient with supervision at all times. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills of aseptic techniques. Must demonstrate knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being served.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: High school graduate or certified equivalent. Must be in academic good standing and enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologist Degree program, and have successfully completed the 1st semester of the program.

    Licensure: CPR required.

    Experience: Prior experience in same or similar position is desirable. Background in medical related field preferred.

    Skills: Manual dexterity to handle multitude of OR instruments. Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients’ needs that are age appropriate. Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for age group of patient served.

    Basic typing and computer skills. Telephone etiquette and customer service skills. Medical terminology preferred.

    PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Works in surgical suite under aseptic conditions and cool temperatures. Exposure to hazards found in surgical areas. Requires ability to work flexible schedule. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions with ability to adapt to rapid turnover of patient census.
