Job Description

Description

Surgical Veterinary Technician

Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group | The Garden Vet | Brooklyn, NY

Pay starting at $26/hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Do you love the precision, teamwork, and problem-solving that come with surgery? Are you the person who can anticipate what the doctor needs before they ask, keep a procedure running smoothly, and still make sure the patient gets plenty of TLC along the way? Would you rather be in surgery than exam rooms? We’d love to meet you!

The Garden Vet in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is looking for a skilled Surgical Veterinary Technician to join our team. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a collaborative medical team, and understands that great surgical care starts well before the first incision and continues long after the procedure is over.

A little about the role

You’ll play an important part in helping our surgical days run safely, efficiently, and smoothly. From preparing patients and surgical suites to monitoring anesthesia and supporting recovery, you’ll help ensure our patients receive attentive, high-quality care at every stage.

Your responsibilities will include preparing and maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, assisting with surgical procedures, monitoring patients under anesthesia, tracking vital signs, maintaining aseptic technique, and providing thoughtful postoperative care. You’ll also help keep our surgical areas organized, clean, and ready for whatever the day brings.

We’re looking for someone who is confident in a surgical setting, understands the importance of patient safety and attention to detail, and communicates well with both doctors and fellow technicians. Just as importantly, you should be comfortable working as part of a team where everyone contributes and patient care comes first.

Who we’re looking for

Ideally, you have hands-on veterinary surgical experience and a solid understanding of anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparation, sterile technique, and patient recovery. You’re observant, organized, calm under pressure, and able to think ahead when things get busy.

You also know that being a great technician involves more than technical skills. It means advocating for patients, communicating clearly, supporting your teammates, and treating every animal in your care with patience and compassion.

Licensed veterinary technicians are encouraged to apply, and we’d love to hear from experienced veterinary technicians with a strong surgical background as well.

What we offer

We believe taking care of our team is an important part of taking care of our patients. Our benefits include:

  • Competitive compensation starting at $26/hour, based on experience and qualifications

  • Paid time off for full-time employees

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits for eligible employees

  • 401(k) retirement plan

  • Company-sponsored Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

  • Employee pet care discount

  • Employee referral bonus

Why The Garden Vet?

We know that a good surgical technician needs more than a checklist of responsibilities. You need a team that communicates, respects your skills, and understands how much your work matters. We want someone who takes pride in their craft, enjoys collaborating with colleagues, and wants to keep growing professionally while contributing to excellent patient care.

If surgery is your happy place and you’re ready to bring your skills to a team that values what you do, we’d love to hear from you.
