Survey Party Crew Chief – Job Description

Position: Survey Party Crew Chief Location: Within 2 hours of Evansville, IN, Travel Position

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Survey Party Crew Chief to lead field survey operations in support of construction, land development, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will oversee a team, operate advanced surveying equipment, and ensure the accuracy and efficiency of field data collection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise a survey crew in the field, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Conduct boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
• Operate and maintain survey instruments such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
• Interpret engineering and survey plans, maps, and legal descriptions.
• Perform field calculations and ensure accurate documentation of survey data.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and company procedures.
• Train and mentor junior survey crew members as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience: 3+ years of field survey experience, with leadership experience preferred.
• Education: High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying, engineering, or a related field is a plus.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in operating total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and survey software.
• Knowledge of Surveying Principles: Understanding of boundary laws, construction staking, and land development practices.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Communication & Leadership: Strong organizational and leadership skills to effectively manage a crew and coordinate with other teams.
• Licensing: Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification is a plus but not required.
