We're looking for motivated individuals with hands-on survey experience to join our field team as a Survey Party Worker (CST Level I - Field Track). In this role, you'll support construction staking and design survey operations using advanced digital equipment and field techniques. Working alongside experienced survey professionals, you'll apply your skills to real-world projects while continuing to grow your technical knowledge in areas like data collection, staking, utility locating, and CAD integration. OUR MISSION
The Sanitation Districts protect public health and the environment through innovative and cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management, and in doing so convert waste into resources such as recycled water, energy and recycled materials.
LOCATION:
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SECTION, CARSON FIELD OFFICE
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform progressively more difficult survey crew tasks with duties that include construction staking support, design survey data collection and other survey operations using digital survey technology and equipment, including duties related to supporting survey operations.
JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision from the Survey Party Chief, the incumbent will:
Hold level and plumb rod over station to determine measurement and position
Read distance on the chain, level rod, or digital measuring equipment
Stake lines or offsetting line using hubs or nails and painting them on street surfaces
Take notes on level and bench runs and/or check the notes of others
Locate pipes with hand carried transmitter/receiver box
Dig up pipes
Maintain truck and tools
Learn to operate digital survey equipment and able to do so in the absence of a Land Survey Technician
Learn to use digital input/output devices and translation protocol to feed survey data to CAD Microstation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess:
A valid California Class C driver license

SURVEY PARTY WORKER I:
SURVEY PARTY WORKER II:
Option 1: Two (2) years of experience performing routine survey duties as a Survey Party Worker I
Option 2: One (1) year of experience performing duties equivalent to the Survey Party Work II class. Satisfactory completion of college level surveying courses may be substituted for the required experience in increments of six (6) semester units for six (6) months of experience

Principles of geometry, algebra, and trigonometry
Elementary engineering survey principles and practices
Simple drawing and drafting methods and techniques
Digital survey equipment

Learn to solve survey problems, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry
Learn to make survey field notes
Perform manual labor requiring physical dexterity and heavy lifting
Learn to perform difficult survey assignments and to use the complex tools and digital equipment of the survey trade
Perform the full range of rear and head chain work duties
Operate digital survey equipment
Learn to operate a theodolite/robotic total station

RETIREMENT
COMPENSATION
Employees receive annual salary increases until reaching step 5 of the salary range and are provided with opportunities to promote. Cost of living adjustments are implemented annually in accordance with labor agreements.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT
Employees may be eligible for tuition reimbursement for approved accredited course work.
STUDENT LOAN PAYMENT REIMBURSEMENT
For some bargaining units, the Districts will provide student loan payment reimbursements for principal or interest paid by the employee on a qualified education loan incurred by the employee for the education of the employee. The annual maximum reimbursement is $5,250 and the lifetime reimbursement limit is $21,000.
