Classification: One-year initial appointment, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt staff position
Reports to: Chief Sustainability Officer, Vice President of Academic Affairs, ad Dean of the College
Job Summary/Objective:
The Sustainability Fellow will support efforts related to sustainability and agriculture on campus, including
Assisting in general sustainability planning activities and initiatives
Assisting in benchmarking and other aspects of campus sustainability plan development
Assist as needed in the campus greenhouse, including growing, direct and wholesale produce marketing and distribution, pest management, and maintenance
Assisting as needed with the on-campus wine shop, wine shipping, and vineyard operations
Assisting as needed with campus apiary operations
Assisting as needed in campus conservation initiatives
Other duties as assigned
Weekend and evening work will be required.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
1-2 years work experience (part-time work while in school counts) in at least two of the following areas: winery/vineyard operations, greenhouse operations, outdoor agriculture, apiculture, floriculture
Must be able to walk two miles comfortably, lift at least 30 lbs, bend/squat, engage in repetitive motions, and work in hot and humid outdoor and greenhouse conditions
Must communicate clearly with supervisor and team members
Reliability as demonstrated through promptness, attendance at work, following instructions, and completing assigned tasks
Must be committed to building personal, team, and institutional capacity, as demonstrated through willingness to learn, willingness to support learning of others and share skills and knowledge, and desire to develop abilities to anticipate and resolve issues before they arise
Must be committed to maintaining safe working conditions and practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in relevant field, e.g. environmental science, agriculture
Since this is a fellowship, preference for applicants within five years of having completed their undergraduate education
