    Clearance:   Active Secret clearance or higher

    Position Summary

    This onsite role supports system safety engineering activities for complex defense products at a Raytheon facility. The engineer will assist with MIL-STD-882E compliant safety programs, hazard analyses, safety requirements, technical reviews, and customer approval activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support implementation of MIL-STD-882E system safety programs
    • Perform system safety tasks across program management, analysis, evaluation, and verification activities
    • Review engineering hardware, electrical drawings, schematics, and technical data for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety compliance
    • Develop and assess safety requirements, hazard controls, and administrative controls
    • Review test, operational, and maintenance procedures to ensure appropriate safety controls are in place
    • Work across engineering and integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or implement effective mitigations
    • Support preparation of Safety Assessment Reports, Safety Program Briefs, and internal/customer safety documentation
    • Present safety findings during technical reviews and safety approval activities
    • Interface with customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors, and internal engineering teams

    Required Qualifications

    • Experience supporting system safety engineering, hazard analysis, or safety compliance activities
    • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E system safety processes
    • Ability to interpret system requirements, customer specifications, engineering drawings, and military standards
    • Experience reviewing hardware, electrical, mechanical, or system-level designs for safety concerns
    • Strong written communication and ability to prepare technical analysis documentation
    • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with System Safety Program Plans, Safety Assessment Reports, or Safety Program Briefs
    • Experience supporting defense, aerospace, weapon systems, or other complex hardware programs
    • Experience with fault tree analysis, failure modes analysis, hazard analysis, or safety verification activities
    • Experience participating in technical reviews, customer reviews, or safety approval boards
    • Familiarity with test procedures, tactical operating procedures, and maintenance documentation

    • Produces clear, technically sound safety analyses and requirements
    • Identifies hazards early and helps implement practical, effective controls
    • Supports timely safety approvals without negatively impacting program performance
    • Works effectively with engineering teams, program leadership, and customer stakeholders
