Pay Rate : $40.00-$70.00/hr (DOE)

Overview
The Systems Engineer – Mechatronics plays a critical role in the development of autonomous systems and robotic platforms, translating product and mission objectives into well-defined system architectures and requirements. This role bridges perception, controls, software, and hardware teams to ensure cohesive system design, integration, and performance.
You will work across the full development lifecycle to ensure autonomous systems are safe, reliable, and scalable, supporting applications such as autonomous vehicles, mobile robots, or intelligent machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with product, autonomy, and engineering teams to define system-level requirements, KPIs, and operational design domains (ODDs).
  • Translate high-level objectives into detailed system and subsystem requirements across perception, planning, controls, and hardware.
  • Develop and manage interface control documents (ICDs) for sensors, compute platforms, actuators, and software modules.
  • Ensure end-to-end requirements traceability from concept through validation and deployment.
  • Support system architecture development, including sensor integration (LiDAR, radar, cameras), compute, and control systems.
  • Conduct impact analysis and requirement change management in fast-evolving development environments.
  • Partner with safety teams to perform and support functional safety analysis (HARA, FMEA, STPA) and ensure compliance with safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262 or similar).
  • Define and support verification & validation strategies, including simulation, HIL/SIL testing, and field validation.
  • Participate in design reviews and integration efforts to ensure system performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Support technical proposals, demonstrations, and customer engagements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Robotics, or Computer Engineering (or related field).
  • 2–7+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex, integrated systems.
  • Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, requirements engineering, and subsystem integration.
  • Familiarity with sensor systems (LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMUs) and robotic control systems.
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Polarion).
  • Knowledge of safety and risk analysis methodologies (FMEA, STPA, HARA).
  • Exposure to simulation, HIL/SIL testing, or robotics/autonomy frameworks (e.g., ROS) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Impact
  • Enable delivery of safe, high-performance autonomous and robotic systems
  • Ensure alignment between autonomy software, hardware, and system requirements
  • Improve system reliability, safety, and real-world performance through rigorous systems engineering
