This role partners closely with Wine Sales Ambassadors and support staff to maintain service standards, optimize guest flow, and drive a seamless, elevated experience across the estate. The MOD serves as the primary leader on the floor, responsible for real-time decision-making, team alignment, and operational execution.

The MOD is not assigned a section and is not permitted to take tables while acting as Manager on Duty. This role is dedicated to overseeing the full guest experience, supporting the team, and ensuring operational excellence.

The MOD is expected to demonstrate strong leadership, hospitality expertise, and business acumen while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and representing Wente Family Estates.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Hospitality Leadership

  • Champion exceptional hospitality standards across all guest touchpoints
  • Ensure every guest receives a seamless, engaging, and memorable experience
  • Monitor guest flow, wait times, and pacing to maintain service excellence
  • Act as the primary escalation point for guest concerns, resolving issues promptly and professionally
  • Supports, motivates, and trains the operations team to utilize sales skills for wine club growth, invigorates wine sales, and provides a high-standard experience for guests and employees.

Floor Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead the floor during service, providing direction, coaching, and real-time support to team members
  • Ensure alignment with service standards, sales expectations, and operational procedures
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment
  • Identify opportunities to support team members in improving guest engagement and sales performance
  • Maintain visibility and presence on the floor at all times, includes walkthroughs and maintenance checks.

Sales & Business Performance Support

  • Support the achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals
  • Drive focus on key performance indicators, including AOV, club conversion, and guest engagement
  • Reinforce sales behaviors and guest engagement strategies with Wine Sales Ambassadors
  • Identify opportunities to enhance revenue through improved guest flow and service execution
  • Ensure proper POS usage, accuracy, and cash. As well as pricing promotions.

Operational Execution

  • Oversee opening and closing procedures to ensure operational readiness
  • Completes daily and MOD reports
  • Ensure tasting room, patio, and all guest-facing areas meet brand and cleanliness standards
  • Monitor inventory levels of wine, retail, and operational supplies; communicate needs proactively. Involved inventory audits.
  • Operational expert in Reservation systems, POS (e.g., Commerce7, TOCK)
  • Support the execution of events and special experiences
  • Partner with Operations Manager on KPI, POS and reservation systems.
  • Assists or leads in scheduling

Reservation & Guest Flow Management

  • Partner with the Concierge/Host team to ensure accurate and efficient reservation management
  • Oversee guest seating flow and adjust in real time to optimize capacity and experience
  • Support large party coordination and ensure readiness for group experiences
  • Maintain awareness of upcoming reservations and business trends to support staffing and planning

Standards, Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations
  • Uphold company policies and procedures at all times
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks for guests and employees
  • Represent Wente Family Estates with integrity, professionalism, and enthusiasm

Skills and Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong passion for hospitality, leadership, and operational excellence.
  • Previous leadership experience in hospitality, restaurant, or winery environments preferred
  • Strong understanding of tasting room or restaurant-style floor operation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to balance guest experience with business needs
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Professional presence with a polished and approachable demeanor
  • Familiarity with Commerce7, TOCK, or POS systems preferred
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as business demands require

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks including bending, reaching, and stocking inventory
  • Manual dexterity to operate POS systems, tablets, and computers
  • Ability to work in a dynamic indoor/outdoor environment
