(Councilor), an accounting and business advisory firm that serves clients throughout Washington, DC, Baltimore, and the Mid-Atlantic region, is currently seeking a dedicated senior tax professional with at least six years of public accounting and tax experience to work primarily on compilation/review and tax engagements for our clients.Remote work in the United States & flexible schedule are available. Essential FunctionsManage tax related processes, procedures, and teamPrepare personal, corporate, estate, and trust tax returns, including more complex casesReview and approve all returns, with the exception of those dealing with specialized issues requiring the expertise of another manager or directorReview tax accruals and associated working papersAssume responsibility for the smooth flow of tax returnsAct as director-in-charge for a variety of clients, and act as key client for a variety of engagementsBill and discuss fees with clientsComplete complex tax planning, including preparation of BNA projectionsAnalyze IRS notices and draft responsesReview IRS notice responses prepared by other tax personnelRepresent clients before the IRSCommunicate tax developments to the firmPerform more complex tax research and review the research projects of othersAssist accounting and auditing staff members in client meetingsDelegate work to and supervise/manage work of tax staff, senior tax accountants, and tax supervisorsParticipate in tax department administrative projectsWork with directors to establish standards for the tax staff and evaluate and counsel tax staff membersAct as a resource for tax staff, senior tax accountants, tax supervisors, and tax managersContribute to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive serviceDevelop a general understanding of the firm's philosophy and tax opinionsEstablish good working relationships with all directors and staff membersOther FunctionsPossess time management and organization skillsDemonstrate industry expertiseAssist with recruitment and training of other tax department personnelDevelop an entrepreneurial approach to client service and develop good working relationships with client personnelMaintain contacts with peers, develop a network of business contacts, meet with prospective clients, and cultivate referralsWrite articles and make presentationsDevelop a broad general knowledge of economic, political, and business conditionsAccept volunteer positions in community organizationsPerform other duties as assignedJob QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting or another related programAdvanced degree (generally a law degree or a master's in taxation) is strongly desiredCPA certificationAt least six years of recent relevant public accounting, tax, and review experience (experience with trusts is a plus)At least two years of management experience and the ability to lead and develop professional staffProficiency in the use of computers and tax software programs (Document, Engagement, CCH Suite - Axcess Tax, QuickBooks, etc.)Ability to manage multiple client engagements and prioritize work About CouncilorAt Councilor, it is our goal to hire talented, energetic people who are enthusiastic about what they do.
