Tax Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and consulting services for a diverse portfolio of clients, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts/estates, nonprofit organizations, and agricultural businesses. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal and state tax returns, manage client relationships, provide tax planning guidance, and mentor staff. The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong technical tax knowledge and practical experience using UltraTax and related tax software.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the preparation, review, and filing of federal and state tax returns including Forms 1040 (individual), 1065 (partnership), 1120/1120S (corporation), 1041 (trusts and estates), and 990 (tax-exempt organizations).
- Oversee and perform detailed tax research and provide practical tax planning recommendations to minimize client liabilities and support business objectives.
- Use UltraTax and other tax software to prepare, review, and finalize returns; ensure accuracy and compliance with current tax laws and firm quality standards.
- Review workpapers and tax returns prepared by staff for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to firm procedures; provide constructive feedback and technical coaching.
- Manage client relationships: communicate tax positions, negotiate with taxing authorities when necessary, and respond to client inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
- Coordinate and supervise multiple engagements and deadlines; allocate resources, set priorities, and ensure timely delivery of services during busy seasons.
- Train, mentor, and develop junior tax professionals through on-the-job coaching, performance reviews, and technical training sessions.
- Partner with partners and senior leadership to identify business development opportunities and contribute to practice growth, particularly within individual and agricultural sectors.
- Stay current on federal, state, and local tax law changes and implement process improvements and best practices to improve efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive tax experience, including experience preparing and reviewing Forms 1040, 1065, 1120/1120S, 1041, and 990.
- Hands-on experience with UltraTax or equivalent professional tax preparation software.
- Demonstrated ability to review and prepare complex tax returns accurately and efficiently.
- Experience working with individual and agricultural (Agri) clients preferred, including knowledge of common agricultural tax issues and elections.
- Strong technical research skills and working knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
- Proven leadership experience supervising and mentoring staff, with excellent communication and client management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
