Description

The Vice President, State and Local Tax will lead and support state and local tax compliance, reporting, planning, and controversy matters while partnering with business and finance teams to manage tax risk and identify opportunities across the organization.

Description

  • Manage state and local income, franchise, gross receipts, and other tax compliance requirements.
  • Review and analyze state tax provisions and support financial reporting processes.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess impacts on the organization.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex state and local tax issues, including nexus, apportionment, sourcing, and taxability matters.
  • Support tax planning initiatives designed to optimize the company's state and local tax position.
  • Assist with state audits, examinations, and controversy matters.
  • Collaborate with federal tax, finance, controllership, legal, and business teams on transactional and operational tax issues.
  • Evaluate tax implications of business changes, restructurings, acquisitions, and new products.
  • Enhance tax processes, controls, and technology solutions to improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors and tax authorities when necessary.

Profile

A successful Tax VP, SALT should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in state and local taxation, preferably within financial services, banking, asset management, insurance, or a large multinational corporation.
  • Deep understanding of state income tax, franchise tax, apportionment methodologies, nexus standards, and multistate tax compliance.
  • Knowledge of tax accounting and financial reporting concepts.
  • Experience managing state tax audits and controversy matters.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to interpret complex tax regulations and provide practical business-oriented solutions.
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
