Job Summary

This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

NATURE OF WORK

Under general supervision, provides year-round educational and related instruction to youth at the juvenile detention center.

Nature of Work

(Illustrative Only) Meets and instructs students in the location and at the times designated; plans a program study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students; guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required; identifies the learning disabilities of students seeking the assistance of district specialist as required; takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation; assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, of the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner; makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms; strives to maintain and improve professional competence; attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Experience and Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university; highly Qualified in subject area to be taught; a minimum of one year of experience working with youth in an alternative school setting. Valid Secondary Teachers certificate in Arizona; must be at least 21 years of age. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This classification requires the applicant to pass criminal background checks; must possess a current/valid Arizona Class One Fingerprint Card at time of application; a valid Arizona State Driver's License is required; employees in this classification must maintain all required certifications; demonstrates commitment to the Juvenile Court's strategic plan, mission statement and departmental goals; the above information is not to be considered a complete statement of additional requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a juvenile detention center.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: State of Arizona Department of Education rules, policies and procedures; Arizona state-mandated curriculum; basic principles and practices of teaching and instructing youth in an alternative high school and/or juvenile detention center; basic principles and practices of curriculum development, lesson planning and delivery of instruction; evidence based practices in behavior management, community resources and services; adolescent development; basic legal terminology and functions of the court, as necessary.

Skills in: Techniques in working with youth in an alternative high school and/or juvenile detention center; evidence-based practices in the delivery of instruction; communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing; operation of computer hardware and software for instructional and business purposes; use of copier, fax machine and other available instructional technology.

Ability to: Work in a juvenile detention center; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with teachers, co-workers, students and their families, the court and the public; maintaining order and discipline in the classroom; oral and written communication; evaluate and research in area of teaching specialty; provide individual and group instruction and academic counseling; learn and adhere to applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, operational policies and procedures, Federal rules and requirements; learn and adhere to Superior Court and Yuma County policies and procedures; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Medical Coverage Category

The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). The employee is able to select from two (2) medical plan options with six (6) tiers that will best suit the employees needs, dependents or families.

Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option A (PPO) or PPO A 1100 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing a preventative visit.

Plan Option 2: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) with a 1700 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing a preventative visit.

Employer contributes a total of $800.04 to employees Health Savings Account. If employees select Employee only and participate in the "Wellness Incentive" employees can receive up to 360.00 contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card to be used for medical or dental purposes.

International Medical Solutions (IMS): IMS is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan A and HDHP. Members enrolled in the PPO plan can pay as little as $5 copay for doctor visits & prescription drug services, with no maximum cap. High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) pay toward their deductible until is met. After the deductible is satisfied, the plan will pay 80% of the services covered, and the member will be responsible for the remaining 20% coinsurance.
