SUMMARY: Provides curriculum support and professional development in the areas of special education

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some individuals may not perform all the duties listed.   • Provide guidance with developing compliant IEPs and review IEPs for compliance
  • Support staff with curriculum implementation
  • Plans and conducts professional development to support special education teachers
  • Supports teachers by facilitating the development and implementation of programs compliant with state and federal laws (IDEA)
  • Helps teachers develop and implement class-room based, developmentally appropriate interventions for individual students and groups of children to enhance their acquisition of social/emotional and cognitive skills
  • Attend IEP meetings as the District Representative, as needed
  • Coordinate homebound services
  • Oversee alternative test
  • Coordinate with principals regarding caseloads, schedules, special education, transportation
  • Classroom observation of students
  • Support writing behavioral plans
  • Performs additional other related duties as assigned
  • Reports to the Director of Student Services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and abilities required to satisfactorily perform essential duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge of and Required Skills

Special education law (IDEA)

Researched based instructional practices in the areas of reading, writing, math, social, emotional

Differentiation

Diverse populations of special needs students

Ability to:

Work evenings and weekends

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Maintain effective working relationships with others

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge and abilities is acceptable.

Master's Degree in Education

Special Education teaching certificate

Minimum three years' special education teaching experience

Arizona State Administrative Certificate
